Great news on the labeling of the GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) food movement. The latest big announcement is coming from California as its Secretary of State has proclaimed that the GMO labeling ballot measure has met and exceeded the requirements to be placed on the November 2012 ballot – http://www.sos.ca.gov/admin/press-releases/2012/db12-068.pdf
This has been the tremendous hardwork and effort of many people and organizations. One of the key organizations www.labelgmos.org has been pushing the key legislative piece called California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act. Here is the link to their reaction to this victory – http://www.labelgmos.org/we_made_it_on_the_ballot.
Many national level organizations such as Environment Work Group (www.ewg.org) are also heavily involved in this and other grass root level movements to label the foods containing GMOs.
Assuming there is a great support and passing of this labeling GMO bill, we can expect it to spread across the U.S. and it can have monumental impact on the GMO foods in America as a whole. Here is a quote from the www.naturalnews.com webpage on this subject: “A passage of this initiative could spell the end of GMOs in America, as food producers already know that if given a choice, 90+ percent of consumers would choose to avoid genetically engineered food. For this reason, food producers would be forced to switch to non-GMO sources for their food ingredients. This, in turn, would see a near collapse of GM seeds being planted in fields across America.”
But work is still ahead to get California bill passed first. Let’s all do our part in fighting for our Health Freedom.
